Tandem Double Stroller
A tandem double stroller has a seating arrangement that positions one child in front of the other. This has the advantage that it makes this type of stroller a lot narrower than a side-by-side arrangement.
The tandem double stroller is ideal for parents with one child older than the other, with the younger child or baby sitting in the rearmost seating position.
The tandem stroller offers more storage space than an umbrella double stroller and therefore is better suited to longer journeys or day trips where the parent will not have to carry much themselves.
The narrower width of the tandem compared to a side-by-side model makes it easier to fit through doorways and navigate down the aisles of grocery stores.
However, their increased length can make them harder to handle through the twists and turns or when trying to avoid obstacles down a busy city sidewalk.

Passenger Features
The tandem seating allows the child in the front to have more legroom and a great view of their exciting surroundings on the journey. The rear seat on the tandem usually has a recline feature and as long as there is adequate head and neck support is suitable for babies and young children.
Due to the seating configuration, only the rear most passenger seat will have a recline feature. Therefore a tandem double stroller will not be suitable for parents with young twins. A side-by-side model should be considered a better buy in this case.
Sun protection should be a consideration for all parents, as shielding your little ones’ delicate eyes and skin from sunlight is extremely important. The tandem seating arrangement can be somewhat of a compromise in this area, as the sun canopy may not reach to fully cover the front seat.
At the lower end of the market many stroller models lack any sort of suspension and can only handle the smoothest surfaces and won’t be suitable for rough terrain. Most manufacturers offer higher end models that have suspension, pneumatic tires and larger wheels giving a smooth ride for your precious cargo.
Folding it Down
A tandem double stroller should fold down more easily than the wider side-by-side version, and present no problems for parents after a short time of ownership. Folding mechanisms have improved in recent years, ensuring that the stroller will fold down to a surprisingly small size. This compact folded size enables you to transport the stroller in your vehicle and store it once you are home.
Price Guide
Tandem double stroller models tend to offer more standard features than an umbrella stroller model. Therefore their prices reflect this, starting from around $200 to over $1000.
The more expensive models tend to offer increased levels of functional versatility with features such as: an universal infant carrier, reversible seating for reclined newborns and an outward facing seat for inquisitive youngsters.
